Background
Many families in remote communities face difficulty obtaining adequate clothing, footwear, school materials, hygiene supplies and other everyday essentials. Children may attend school without appropriate shoes, uniforms or learning materials, while women, caregivers and persons with disabilities may have limited access to basic household support.
At the same time, individuals, families, churches, companies and diaspora communities often have good-quality clothing and useful materials that they no longer need. Without a trusted collection and distribution system, these items may never reach communities where they could make a meaningful difference.
CDEO began responding by collecting donated clothing and educational materials and transporting them to Machogo Village. The initial activity demonstrated the value of organised, needs-based distribution supported by community leaders.
The project builds on that experience by establishing an ongoing and accountable process for collecting, sorting, transporting and distributing essential items.
